IPAF Operator Course - 1B

The IPAF 1B Operator Training Course is meticulously designed to provide participants with the essential knowledge and practical skills required to safely and efficiently operate static boom (1B) mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs). This comprehensive course aligns with the rigorous standards set by the International Powered Access Federation (IPAF), ensuring participants receive world-class training that meets global safety benchmarks.

This course consists of an instructor led training room presentation, written assessment, practical training and assessment.

Introduction to IPAF and MEWPs

• Overview of IPAF and its role in promoting safe and effective use of powered access equipment
• Classification and types of MEWPs, with a focus on static boom (1B) category

Legislation and Standards

• Comprehensive review of relevant legislation, standards, and best practices associated with MEWP operation

• MEWP Components and Pre-Use Inspections

• Identification of key components of static boom MEWPs

• Step-by-step guide on conducting thorough pre-use inspections and function tests

Safe Operating Principles

• Detailed explanation of safe operating practices and hazard avoidance
• Emergency procedures and safety features of static boom MEWPs

Practical Training and Assessment

• Hands-on training under the supervision of experienced instructors
• Practical assessment to evaluate participant’s ability to operate static boom MEWPs safely

Theory Assessment

• Written test to assess understanding of theoretical aspects of MEWP operation

• Certification and Feedback

• Participants who successfully complete the course will receive an IPAF PAL (Powered Access Licence) Card, valid for 5 years

Our courses take place at our fully equipped training centre in Maidenhead, Berkshire. 

We have a great location for those travelling on the M4/M3/M5 and the centre is also close to Heathrow.

The theory component of the course can be completed through a flexible e-learning platform, allowing participants to cover essential background knowledge at their own pace.

This approach significantly reduces the in-person training time, condensing the practical component into a focused half-day session, which typically begins at midday.

This format not only offers greater flexibility but also ensures that the on-site training can be more practically focused, enhancing overall learning outcomes.

Please note: It is a mandatory requirement that the e-learning module is completed and successfully passed prior to the course start date, as this foundational knowledge is essential for effective participation in the in-person session.
