IPAF Competent Assessed Person (CAP)

The IPAF CAP (Competent Assessed Person) Course offers current and practical guidance for platform engineers, ensuring they meet regulatory compliance and can demonstrate their competence in planning, managing, or carrying out thorough examinations of powered access equipment, including both MEWPs and MCWPs.

Widely recognised within the powered access industry, the CAP qualification validates an engineer’s expertise, experience, and dedication to high standards. It complements IPAF’s operator training by extending the emphasis on safety from equipment operation to ongoing maintenance—helping to foster a comprehensive safety culture.

Our experienced instructors will guide candidates through the IPAF CAP training presentation, covering the legal responsibilities of a CAP Assessor. The session includes in-depth instruction on the LOLER and PUWER regulations, along with relevant HSE guidance essential for conducting thorough examinations.

The training day serves as an assessment to confirm that candidates possess the necessary theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and hands-on experience with the types of machines they will examine.

Candidates will complete a series of theory tests throughout the day, each requiring a minimum pass mark. Upon successful completion of the theory component, candidates will proceed to a practical assessment. This involves performing a thorough examination of a MEWP under the direct observation of a CAP Instructor.

Our courses take place at our fully equipped training centre in Maidenhead, Berkshire. 

We have a great location for those travelling on the M4/M3/M5 and the centre is also close to Heathrow.
