IPAF Operator Course - 3A/3B

The IPAF 3A/3B Operator Training Course is a specialised program designed to equip participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to safely and efficiently operate Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs), specifically focusing on Scissor Lifts (3A) and Boom Lifts (3B).

Adhering to the stringent standards established by the International Powered Access Federation (IPAF), this course ensures that operators achieve a high standard of safety and proficiency in MEWP operations.

This course consists of an instructor led training room presentation, written assessment, practical training and assessment.

Introduction to MEWPs and IPAF

• Overview of the types and classifications of MEWPs
• Introduction to IPAF and its role in promoting safe MEWP operation

Legislation, Standards, and Best Practices:

• Comprehensive review of applicable laws, standards, and best practices in MEWP operation

MEWP Components and Pre-Use Inspections

• Identification of key components of Scissor Lifts (3A) and Boom Lifts (3B)
• Guidelines for conducting pre-use inspections and function checks

Safe Operating Principles

• Detailed discussion on safe operating practices, hazard recognition, and avoidance
• Emergency procedures and safety features specific to 3A and 3B MEWPs

Practical Training and Assessment

• Hands-on training under the guidance of experienced instructors
• Practical assessment to evaluate the participant’s ability to safely operate 3A and 3B MEWPs

Theory Assessment

• A written test to assess understanding of theoretical concepts related to MEWP operation

Our courses take place at our fully equipped training centre in Maidenhead, Berkshire. 

We have a great location for those travelling on the M4/M3/M5 and the centre is also close to Heathrow. 

IPAF ePAL

The theory component of the course can be completed through a flexible e-learning platform, allowing participants to cover essential background knowledge at their own pace.

This approach significantly reduces the in-person training time, condensing the practical component into a focused half-day session, which typically begins at midday.

This format not only offers greater flexibility but also ensures that the on-site training can be more practically focused, enhancing overall learning outcomes.

Please note: It is a mandatory requirement that the e-learning module is completed and successfully passed prior to the course start date, as this foundational knowledge is essential for effective participation in the in-person session.
