The aim of this certified course is to help you understand the main responsibilities involved for you to fulfil your appointed person duties in a competent and confident manner.

Course Duration: Approx 25 minutes

The course aids you in finding out what the roles and responsibilities of an appointed person are, learn about The Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981, how to check, maintain and restock first aid kits, how to take charge of the scene in an emergency, including calling emergency services and how to keep records of incidents.

Please note that this e-learning is an awareness course that provides learners with theoretical knowledge of emergency first aid practices; it does not, however, replace competency-based, practical training, nor qualify you as a first aider. If you are looking to qualify as a first aider, please visit our first aid practical training page. Always seek medical advice in case of emergency.

Who should take this online course

It is the employer’s responsibility to determine whether a workplace requires a first aider, or whether it is sufficient to have an appointed person to be in charge of medical emergencies.

This online First Aid course is suitable for anyone who has been selected for the role of Appointed Person in the workplace, or anyone exploring the possibility of becoming one.

For those looking to expand their knowledge, this course works well alongside our First Aid in the Workplace online training,  or online Paediatric First Aid training for those in childcare settings.

Aims and learning outcomes

The aim of this course is to provide theoretical knowledge necessary to educate a designated person on their responsibilities within the company to become an Appointed Person in First Aid.

By the end of this course, learners will be able to better understand their role and responsibilities as the ‘Appointed Person’, while recognising what to do in potential medical emergencies, if ever required in the workplace.

By the end of this course, learners will:

  • Learn about the First Aid Regulations 1981
  • Understand the role and responsibilities of an appointed person
  • Identify what information must be gathered to inform emergency services
  • Learn about storing and keeping records
  • The importance of the first aid kit and what it contains
