Description

Legionnaires’ disease is a severe form of pneumonia and it can often be fatal. It can be contracted when exposed to Legionella, a bacterium naturally found in freshwater environments, like lakes and streams. The bacteria can grow and easily spread to human-built water systems like cooling towers, hot tubs, fountains, hot water tanks and large, complex plumbing systems, becoming a health concern for anyone who is exposed to the bacteria. 

It is the duty holders’ responsibility to prevent the growth and spread of Legionella in the water systems and implement adequate safety measures to reduce the risks associated with the bacteria, while being compliant with the law.
